THE FLEMISH STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION ORGANISED THE MARCH OF MORE THAN 100 MILES (160 KMS) WHICH THEY HOPE TO COMPLETE IN SIX DAYS, PASSING THROUGH THE CITIES OF BRUGES, ANTHWERP AND MALINES.

THE ASSOCIATION WANTS AN AUTONOMOUS FLEMISH UNIVERSITY CREATED IN LOUVAIN AND AN EXTENSION OF BELGIUM'S LANGUAGE LAW TO UNIVERSITY SCHOOLING IS AMONG THEIR OTHER CLAIMS.

THEY HAVE CALLED THEIR PROTEST A "MEREDITH MARCH" AFTER THE AMERICAN JAMES MEREDITH WHO RECENTLY LED A CIVIL RIGHTS MARCH IN SOUTHERN UNITED STATES.
