The Mattagami river overflowed its banks, May 11. Some three- hundred families have been evacuated from Mountjoy township, a suburb of Timmins, Ontario, Canada. Farms near Timmins are flooded and boats are searching for some people still believed stranded in their homes.
The southern part of Timmins is partly flooded, and forty families had to be evacuated from the city proper. The Mattagami river at last reports, has not yet reached its flood peak, and no relief is in sight.
Two dams have been opened, releasing their waters, to make way for water held back by the Wawaitin Falls dam, upstream. It's considered that the greatest danger is from the Falls dam.
