Background: The New York Yankees took over first place in the American League East on Tuesday night (24 June) with a three-to-one win over the Baltimore Orioles.
The game had its high points, but the crowd got some unscheduled entertainment.
Tempers rose, and by the eighth inning, things were coming to a head.
The Orioles' pitcher, Mike Torrez, lit the fuse by throwing the Yankees' catcher a few kisses. That set off a brawl which emptied both the benches and bullpens as everyone joined in.
But Umpire Nick Bremigan ruled that no one was to blame. "Both sides were at fault," he said, "and neither really did any damage."
