  • Description

This C-47 is on a bombing mission against the enemy in South Viet Nam. However, it will not drop explosives - only paper.

This is one of the daily psychological operations missions flown over Viet Cong and North Vietnamese positions. Other psyops missions use loudspeakers to deliver appeals to enemy soldiers to turn themselves in under the Chie Hoi program and support the South Vietnamese government.

This mission was flown against enemy positions near Dak To. Because of artillery firing on the enemy, the navigator becomes the key flight member. He must maintain constant contact with friendly artillery positions to insure the plane does not fly into a barrage.

So far, during the war, more than ???
Enemy commanders recognize the effectiveness of psychological operations and use various tactics to keep their men from reading leaflets. One widespread tactic, according to surrendered soldiers, is to tell the troops that the leaflet paper is poisonous.

While other aircrews drop tons of military ??? to the enemy, these men of the air ??? are using software - leaflets prepared by U.S. Army psychological warfare special???. They are proud to call themselves.... "The biggest litter-bugs in the world." Greg Harris, NBC News, over Dak To, South Viet Nam.

Seven billion leaflets have been air dropped. Sometime during December, the number of former enemy soldiers to give up fighting under the Chieu Hoi program will pass 75,000.

This is an appeal by a former Viet Cong captured near ??? to members of his unit to surrender.

These two leaflets are appeals directed to husbands and fathers to rejoin their lonely, suffering families.

This leaflets promises a reward of about 75 U.S. dollars for the surrender of a machine gun. There are similar rewards given for other weapons.

This is a safe-conduct surrender pass enemy soldiers are told to present when giving themselves up. One woman viet cong soldier had her right hand chopped off when her commander caught her with such a pass.
