  • Description

THIRTY-FOUR LOCALLY TRAINED DOCTORS, THE FIRST TO GRADUATE FROM THE GHANA MEDICAL SCHOOL, RECEIVED THEIR DEGREES AT A SPECIAL CONVOCATION HELD AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GHANA, LEGON.

THE CEREMONY BEGAN WITH A PROCESSION OF THE ACADEMIC STAFF AND MEMBERS OF THE UNIVERSITY COUNCIL.

IN HIS ADDRESS, THE CHIEF JUSTICE AND CHAIRMAN OF THE UNIVERSITY COUNCIL, MR. JUSTICE AKUFO-ADDO, ADVISED THE NEW DOCTORS NOT TO LET THEIR SUCCESS IN EXAMINATIONS MAKE THEM OVERSURE OF SUCCESS IN PRACTICE. HE ADVISED THEM TO CONSIDER SERIOUSLY THE ENTHUSIASM WITH WHICH PEOPLE OF GHANA HAVE WELCOMED THEM INTO SOCIETY AND TO TACKLE THEIR WORK WITH EQUAL ENTHUSIASM. HE ALSO ASKED THEM NOT TO BE RELUCTANT IN ACCEPTING POSTINGS IN RURAL AREAS.

THE VICE-CHANCELLOR OF THE UNIVERSITY OF GHANA, DR. KWAPONG, RECOUNTED THE DIFFICULTIES THE COUNTRY HAD TO FACE BEFORE THE MEDICAL SCHOOL WAS FINALLY SET UP. HE SAID THE COUNCIL WOULD ENSURE ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE SCHOOL'S MEDICAL GRADUATES TO UNDERTAKE POST-GRADUATE TRAINING AND ENJOY OTHER FACILITIES IN THE UNITED KINGDOM.
