  • Description

PRESS EXPERTS FROM 29 AFRICAN NATIONS YESTERDAY (MONDAY) BEGAN A MEETING IN TUNIS TO DISCUSS THE EXPANSION OF THEIR NATIONAL NEWS AGENCIES. THE SIX-DAY CONFERENCE IS SPONSORED BY THE UNITED NATIONS EDUCATIONAL, SCIENTIFIC AND CULTURAL ORGANISATION (UNESCO), AS PART OF A PLAN TO HELP DEVELOPING COUNTRIES IMPROVE NEWS MEDIA.

A SIMILAR CONFERENCE, IN PARIS LAST YEAR, REPORTED THAT MANY AFRICAN AGENCIES NEEDED MORE FUNDS FOR EXPANSION, AS WELL AS EXTRA EQUIPMENT AND SPECIALISED STAFF. IT'S HOPE THAT THE PRESENT TALKS WILL ALSO PROMOTE A GREATER EXCHANGE OF NEWS BOTH INSIDE AFRICA AND WITH OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS AGENCIES IN BRITAIN, FRANCE, THE SOVIET UNION AND THE UNITED STATES HAVE SENT ALONG DELEGATES AND THE ORGANISATION OF ASIAN NEWS AGENCIES IS ALSO REPRESENTED
