    THE BOARD OF THE 13-NATION INTER STATE OFFICE OF AFRICAN TOURISM (O.I.E.T.A.) MET IN ABIDJAN YESTERDAY (WEDNESDAY) TO PREPARE FOR AN ANNUAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE ORGANISATION. THE ASSEMBLY WILL BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 20 AND 21.

    MEMBERS OF O.I.E.T.A. INCLUDE THE IVORY COAST, CONGO-KINSHASA AND MEMBERS OF THE FRENCH COMMUNITY IN WEST AFRICA. THE ORGANISATION'S SECRETARY-GENERAL, M. JULIEN KONAH OF THE IVORY COAST, TOLD YESTERDAY'S MEETING THAT IN 1966, AFRICA ONLY ATTRACTED 1.5% OF WORLD TOURISTS. HE SAID THAT THE BULK OF THESE WENT TO SOUTH AFRICA, KENYA AND OTHER EAST AFRICAN COUNTRIES.

    THE SECRETARY-GENERAL SAID THE MAIN TASK OF THE ORGANISATION WAS TO WORK OUT A COMMON POLICY FOR DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM. THE O.I.E.T.A. MAY REQUEST AID FROM COUNTRIES SUCH AS FRANCE AND INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATIONS TO HELP THE DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM IN MEMBER COUNTRIES.
