    THE DELEGATES BELONG TO THE INTER-AFRICAN COFFEE ORGANISATION. IN AN OPENING SPEECH, THE IVORY COAST MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE, MR. ABDOULAYE SAWADOGO ASKED DELEGATES TO EXAMINE THE PROBLEMS ARISING FROM THE INTERNATIONAL COFFEE AGREEMENT.

    HE SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED THE REVISION OF BASIC QUOTAS, PRODUCTION TARGETS, THE DIVERSIFICATION OF COFFEE-BASED ECONOMIES AND THE PROMOTION OF WORLD COFFEE CONSUMPTION.

    DELEGATES ALSO DISCUSSED THE POSITION OF AFRICAN PRODUCERS IN RELATION TO WORLD COFFEE MARKETS.

    THE ORGANISATION WAS CREATED SIX YEARS AGO THIS MONTH. FIVE COUNTRIES - BURUNDI, DAHOMEY, CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC, SIERRA LEONE AND RWANDA - WERE NOT REPRESENTED AT THE CONFERENCE.
