  • Description

The American Defence Department announced on Friday (9 February) that the first big exchange of Prisoners of War will take place on Monday (12 February) in Hanoi, where 115 Americans will be freed, and near An Loc, in South Vietnam. Three exchange sites have been agreed on by the United States, North and South Vietnam and the Viet Cong. The three exchange sites announced are:- Dong Ha, where 1,000 communists will be freed; Pleiku, where 320 South Vietnamese prisoners will be released; Quan Loi, on the edge of An Loc town, where 27 Americans, 700 South Vietnamese and 1,000 communist troops will be exchanged.

In Quen Loi the war has left its mark in the form of burnt out homes and wrecked buildings. Members of the International Commission of Control and Supervision are now present to see the exchange of prisoners goes according to plan.

SYNOPSIS: Quan Loi, this village on the edge of the South Vietnamese town of An Loc, has been chosen as one of three exchange centres for prisoners of war. Agreement on the sites was reached recently by the United States, North and South Vietnam and the Viet Cong.

Exchanges of prisoners will take place on Monday. The other two sites will be Dong Ha, where one thousand communists will be freed, and Pleiku where three hundred and twenty prisoners will be released. Here in Quan Loi, the biggest exchange of prisoners will take place-- twenty-seven Americans, seven hundred South Vietnamese and one thousand communist troops will be exchanged.

An announcement by the U.S. Defence Department recently stated that one-hundred-and-fifteen American prisoners would be released in Hanoi on Monday. For Quan Loi, the war would appear to be over when on Monday the peaceful exchange of prisoners takes place.

Members of the International Commission for Control and Supervision are already present to see that Monday's exchange goes according to plan.
