  • Description

Ingemar Johansson of Sweden says (SOF) he uses no secret technique for flooring world heavy-weight champions.

He gave his interview shortly after the biggest brouhaha in boxing since ???n Primo Carnera, idol of the thirties, became world champion.

He's big - fourteen stone - forbidding, and carries a clout in his right hand that tends to give rise to talk of mystics and secrets among both fans and foes.

It was the giant clout that floored American Floyd Patterson inside three rounds at New York's Yankee Stadium June 2. Patterson, tough, did not howl. But Americans did - they had lost their richest boxing title to a non-American for the first time since Carnera's 1933 victory.

Johansson's prize money: GBP80,000. Before the September return fight he takes a holiday in Florida and a trip to Sweden for a hero's welcome home. He thinks the only man capable of retrieving the title is Patterson. The supposition will be resolved in three month's time - at an estimated cost to ringside, television and television customers of GBP1M.
