    THE OPENING SESSIONS OF THE ISLAMIC SUMMIT CONFERENCE HAVE BEGUN IN THE MOROCCAN CAPITAL OF RABAT. DELEGATES FROM 25 COUNTRIES, REPRESENTING MORE THAN 300 MILLION MOSLEMS, ARE ATTENDING THE CONFERENCE. AMONG THE DELEGATES ARE TEN HEADS OF STATE.

    KING HASSAN OF MOROCCO, WHO HAS BEEN ELECTED CONFERENCE CHAIRMAN PUBLICLY OPENED THE SUMMIT MEETING YESTERDAY (MONDAY). LATER THE DELEGATES MET BEHIND CLOSED DOORS FOR 40 MINUTES. IN OPENING THE CONFERENCE KING HASSAN SAID IT HAD BEEN CALLED TO SEEK MEASURES TO FACE UP TO THE PROFANATION OF HOLY PLACES IN JERUSALEM.

    AT THE CONFERENCE TODAY (TUESDAY) IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT A DELEGATION FROM THE PALESTINE LIBERATION FRONT WOULD ATTEND AS OBSERVERS AT ALL CLOSED MEETINGS OF THE CONFERENCE. IT WAS ALSO ANNOUNCED THAT INDIA HAD ACCEPTED A LAST-MINUTE INVITATION TO ATTEND THE CONFERENCE AS A FULL MEMBER. INDIA HAS SOME 60 MILLION MOSLEMS IN HER POPULATION OF MORE THAN 400 MILLION PEOPLE.

    MOROCCO'S MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS, M. AHMED LARAKI, WHO IS ACTING AS SPOKESMAN FOR THE CONFERENCE, SAID TODAY (TUESDAY) THE CONFERENCE HAD THREE POINTS ON ITS AGENDA. THESE WERE THE RECENT FIRE IN THE AL-AQSA MOSQUE IN JERUSALEM, THE QUESTION OF JERUSALEM ITSELF, AND THE ADOPTION OF A JOINT STAND ON THESE ISSUES.

    THE SUMMIT MEETING THE FIRST OF ITS KIND, IS DUE TO END TOMORROW (WEDNESDAY).
