    The Portugese President Admiral Americo Rodrigues Thomas arrived in Praia, the capital of the Cape Verde Islands, on Sunday, on the second stage of his visit to Portuguese African territories. The President, who already spent five days in Portuguese Guinea, will visit each of the nine islands in the Archipelago, during a week-long tour.

    A fleet of fishing craft and a Portuguese Frigate escorted the President's liner to its anchorage. Most of the population of Praia lined the streets of the city as Admiral Thomas was driven by in an open car. Sore held placards, welcoming the President and paying tribute to Prime Minister Salazar.

    After the welcoming drive, President Thomas took part in a religious ceremony.

    This is his third tour of Portuguese African territory. He visited Angola in 1963 and Mozambique in 1964.

    The Cape Verde Islands lie off the Senegalese coast and are well known for their coffee and cocoa production.
