If you think crocodiles are vicious ugly beasts whose only virtue is their contribution to ladies handbags, you're quite wrong.
If you think crocodiles are vicious ugly beasts whose only virtue is their contribution to ladies handbags, you're quite wrong. They're very friendly really, and musical too . Well, that's what they think down at the Raga Crocodile Ponds in Ghana.
SYNOPSIS: Monsters like this are a big attraction to tourists visiting the northern border area. The crocs know it's feeding time when local boys whistle tunes for them - proving that if music soothes the savage breast, it can also inflame the savage stomach.
These dangerous looking reptiles are in fact so tame that you can grab them by the tail if you're feeling brave enough. One of the biggest ones at the Raga ponds is said to allow adventurous visitors to ride on its back, although with teeth like this there can't be many takers. The crocodile's reward for entertaining tourists is a raw chick, and although it's not much more than a snack, it's clearly worth the trip from the middle of the pond. It's worth it for spectators too, even though most like to keep their distance.
Tourism in the area is growing so fast that the Ghanaian Tourist board is considering constructing a resort nearby. No doubt they'll warn the builders against whistling while they work.
