REPEATEDLY HER PERFORMANCE WAS PUNCTUATED BY LONG BURSTS OF APPLAUSE FROM THE CROWD OF 14,000.

    DESPITE A STUMBLE SOON AFTER SHE TOOK TO THE ICE, WENDY GRINER, 16-YEAR OLD CANADIAN SCHOOLGIRL FROM HAMILTON, ONTARIO, RECOVERED QUICKLY TO FILL SECOND PLACE. REGINE HEITZER, 19, CHAMPION OF AUSTRIA, WAS THIRD.

    A SURPRISE PERFORMANCE WAS PUT UP BY DUTCH-CANADIAN PETRA BURKA, 16, WHO MANAGED TO CLINCH FOURTH PLACE AMONG THE 21 COMPETITORS.

    CANADA, WITH TEN ENTRIES, HAD THE LARGEST REPRESENTATION AT THE PRAGUE COMPETITIONS WHICH ATTRACTED 106 SKATERS FROM 16 COUNTRIES. THE CHAMPIONSHIPS WERE DUE TO END ON MARCH 18.
