    SIR FRANK SOSKICE, THE HOME SECRETARY, LAST WEEK ORDERED THE RIGOROUS ENFORCEMENT OF THE COMMONWEALTH IMMIGRANT ACT, INTRODUCED IN 1962 TO CONTROL IMMIGRATION TO BRITAIN.

    IT IS A LONDON AIRPORT THAT MOST OF THE IMMIGRANTS ARRIVE. TODAY THE HOME OFFICE IMMIGRATION OFFICERS THERE WERE GIVEN REINFORCEMENTS AS SIX SCHEDULED FLIGHTS ARRIVED FROM KARACHI. PASSPORTS WHICH APPEARED SUSPECT WERE TESTED WITH ULTRA-VIOLET RAY FORGERY DETECTORS. IMMIGRANTS WHO SAID THEY WERE COMING TO BRITAIN AS DEPENDENTS WERE ASKED TO PROVE THEIR RELATIONSHIP. ALL THE FACTS ARE TO BE CLOSELY CHECKED BY POLICE BEFORE THE IMMIGRANTS WILL BE GIVEN PERMISSION TO STAY IN THE COUNTRY.
