  • Description

The future role of radio and television in the development of Africa was discussed in Rabat yesterday (Monday), when the Union of National Radio and Television Organisations of Africa opened its eleventh annual session.

Union President Garba Sdidikou of Niger added in his opening remarks that among the problems to be debated during the session would be the exchange of programmes and ways of promoting African music.

Later, delegates from 23 member states and 10 United Nations agencies heard Moroccan Information Minister Ahmed Senoussi declare that the three-day conference was aimed at helping to develop Africa's radio and television services.

It could do this by the exchange of technical information, by increased co-operation and assistance, and by establishing close relations with international organisations. He envisaged that audio-visual communications would play an invaluable role in the economic and social advancement of the country.
