POLLING TAKES PLACE TOMORROW IN WHAT HAS BECOME THE MOST TURBULENT AND HARD-FOUGHT ELECTION IN THE 48 YEARS OF NORTHER IRELAND'S POLITICAL EXISTENCE.

    CAPTAIN O'NEILL SPENT HIS TIME AGAIN CALLING DOOR-TO-DOOR TO TALK TO SUPPORTERS ON THE HOUSING ESTATE OF RANDALSTOWN IN HIS CONSTITUENCY, BANNSIDE.

    THIS IS THE FIRST CONTESTED ELECTION FOR 30 YEARS IN THIS CONSTITUENCY WHERE THE PRIME MINISTER IS OPPOSED BY THE MILITANT CLERIC, IAN PAISLEY, LEADER OF THE PROTESTANT EXTREMISTS.
