    CIVIL RIGHTS LEADERS IN NEW YORK CITY ARE USING THE WORLD'S FAIR, WHICH OPENS LATER THIS MONTH, TO DEMONSTRATE THEIR DISAFFECTION OVER ALLEGED SEGREGATION IN AMERICA'S LARGEST CITY. THIRTY CIVIL RIGHTS DEMONSTRATORS WERE ARRESTED ON SATURDAY, (APRIL 4), ON CHARGES THAT THEY WERE HAMPERING CONSTRUCTION WORK AT THE FAIR GROUND.

    THE PICKETS HAD SAT DOWN IN THE PATH OF TRUCKS DELIVERING MATERIALS, AND THEIR LEADER SAY THEY PLAN FURTHER DEMONSTRATIONS INCLUDING A MAJOR PROTEST ON THE OPENING DAY -- APRIL 22.

    ACCORDING TO THE CIVIL RIGHTS LEADERS THE DEMONSTRATIONS ARE NOT AIMED AT THE FAIR, ALTHOUGH THERE HAVE BEEN CHARGES THAT SOME CONSTRUCTION UNIONS REPRESENTING WORKERS BUILDING EXHIBITS HAVE BEEN CARRYING OUT SEGREGATION. THE PROBLEM THE CIVIL RIGHTS SUPPORTERS ARE TRYING TO GET PUBLICITY FOR INVOLVES THE QUESTION OF DE-SEGREGATING THE CITY'S SCHOOLS.

    THEY CLAIM THAT AS MINORITIES ARE FORCED TO GROUP TOGETHER IN CERTAIN DISTRICTS FEW CHILDREN ATTEND SCHOOLS OTHER THAN WITH THEIR OWN KIND. THE CAMPAIGN AIMS AT PERSUADING THE CITY'S BOARD OF EDUCATION TO ARRANGE FOR MINORITY GROUPS TO BE SPREAD THROUGH SCHOOLS IN ALL PARTS OF THE CITY.

    MORE THAN 150 PEOPLE TOOK PART IN SATURDAY'S DEMONSTRATION AND AMONG THOSE ARRESTED WAS THE REVEREND MILTON GALAMISON, LEADER OF TWO RECENT BOYCOTTS BY NEGROES OF CITY SCHOOLS.
