  • Description

French journalists and their colleagues, employed by the ORTF, the state radio and television service, demonstrated outside the National Assembly in Paris on Monday (9 December), protesting against loss of jobs because of its reorganisation.

About 260 of the 1,000 journalists employed by ORFT, will be out of a job when the Government replaces the organisation with six new broadcasting companies next month.

ORTF employees, including musicians, technicians and actors, held a series of meetings among themselves on Monday morning and later gathered for a mass demonstration outside the National Assembly.

They have been striking on and off for more than three weeks now. The employees' strike committee felt that the Government had antagonised them by discriminating against union delegates.

More than 100 union delegates were among those to be dismissed, which was a deliberate discrimination, said a strike committee member recently.
