Egyptian President Anwar Sadat wants palestinian leader Yasser Arafat to "seize the moment" and declare a ceasefire. This message was passed on to newsmen by black American Civil Rights leader Jesse Jackson, upon arriving in Beirut after talking with President Sadat in Egypt.
SYNOPSIS: At the Abdine Palace in Cairo on Monday (1 October), Jesse Jackson met Egyptian President Anwar Sadat for the first time. After introducing his delegation to the Egyptian leader Mr. Jackson made a special presentation. It was a book on American Civil Rights leader, the late Doctor Martin Luther King. It was in his capacity as a leading figure in the Civil Rights movement that Jesse Jackson and his party were invited to Egypt.
The two men discussed Mr. Jackson's meeting with PLO leader Yasser Arafat the day before (30 September) in Beirut.
After the talks, President Sadat provided Mr. Jackson with his private jet in which to continue his Middle East fact-finding tour. Mr. Jackson returned in it to Beirut.
On his arrival in Beirut Mr. Jackson Disclosed to newsmen some of the matters he discussed with President Sadat. He said President Sadat wants more sides in the Middle East conflict to begin talks with each other.
