Background: About 2,000 young Germans staged a protest march in Wetzlar, West Germany, July 24, against the return of nazism. There were no incidents, and the marchers were silent, with only banners and placards indicating their fear of a nazi revival.

Organized by the Falken - a German Social Democratic group - demonstrators carried the slogans "Down with Neo-nazis" and "Nazis Go Home". The demonstration was the answer to neo-nazi Kyfhausers organisation, who were about to hold their general meeting in nearby Braunfels.

Due to mounting protest from both towns, the Kyfhausers cancelled the meeting and none of the expected neo-nazis turned up in either Wetzlar or Braunfels.

For this reason the protest demonstration was well under the control of the Falken leaders and no incidents occurred.
