    WEARING A FLOWING ROBE BEARING PORTRAITS OF PRESIDENT KENNETH KAUNDA, DESIGNED FOR ZAMBIA'S INDEPENDENCE IN 1964, MR. SIMBULE DROVE SEVERAL MILES FROM HIS OFFICE TO BUCKINGHAM PALACE IN A SPECIAL HORSE-DRAWN CARRIAGE TRADITIONALLY USED BY NEW ENVOYS.

    EIGHT MEMBERS OF ZAMBIA'S DIPLOMATIC STAFF, ALSO IN COLOURFUL NATIONAL COSTUME, FOLLOWED IN TWO CARRIAGES.

    IN THE AUDIENCE CHAMBER OF THE PALACE HE WAS INTRODUCED TO THE QUEEN BY LIEUTENANT-COLONEL J. M. HUGO, PROTOCOL AND CEREMONIAL SECRETARY AT THE COMMONWEALTH OFFICE, AND PRESENTED HIS LETTER OF COMMISSION SIGNED BY PRESIDENT KAUNDA.

    MR. SIMBULE AND THE QUEEN HAD A BRIEF PRIVATE CONVERSATION AFTER WHICH HE PRESENTS THE OTHER MEMBER SO THE HIGH COMMISSION.

    THE HIGH COMMISSIONER, WHOSE ACCREDITATION WAS THE SUBJECT OF A THREE-MONTH DISPUTE BECAUSE HE HAD TERMED BRITAIN A HUMBLED TOOTHLESS BULLDOG, AFRAID OF IAN SMITH, WAS ACCEPTED LAST WEEK AFTER HE HAD EXPRESSED REGRET.
