  • Description

THE LATEST BRITISH MOVES TO GAIN ENTRY TO THE COMMON MARKET WERE EXPLAINED TO BRITAIN'S PARTNERS IN THE EUROPEAN FREE TRADE ASSOCIATION (E.F.T.A.) TODAY (MONDAY) BY THE PRIME MINISTER, MR WILSON.

THE MEETING, BEING ATTENDED BY PRIME MINISTERS FORM AUSTRIA, DENMARK, FINLAND, NORWAY, SWEDEN AND SWITZERLAND, AND THE PORTUGUESE MINISTER OF ECONOMICS, WAS CONVENED AT MR WILSON'S REQUEST. IT IS TO LAST ONLY ONE DAY.

AS WELL AS PROVIDING E.F.T.A. MEMBERS WITH AN EXPLANATION OF THE LATEST BRITISH MOVES. THE MEETING WAS ALSO EXPECTED TO CONSIDER THE DESIRE BY SOME OTHER MEMBERS OF THE BLOC TO ENTER THE COMMON MARKET AND THE DIFFICULTIES THEY ARE EXPERIENCING.

IT HAS BEEN EMPHASISED THAT ALTHOUGH BRITAIN IS NOT ALONE AMONG THE E.F.T.A. MEMBERS SEEKING ENTRY TO THE COMMON MARKET, BRITAIN WILL BE NEGOTIATING FOR HER OWN ENTRY TO THE COMMUNITY, AND NOT ACTING ON BEHALF OF OTHER E.F.T.A. MEMBERS WHICH ARE ALSO SEEKING MEMBERSHIP.

THE FOUR SCANDINAVIAN MEMBERS, DENMARK, FINLAND, NORWAY AND SWEDEN, HAVE EXPRESSED PLEASURE AT THE APPARENT SIGNS OF A NEW BRITISH ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE COMMON MARKET.
