    THE PARTY LEFT EDINBURGH ON MARCH 5 AND TOOK 70 DAYS TO REACH SINGAPORE WHERE THE SERVICEMEN WILL BE BASED AT THE REGIMENT'S HEADQUARTERS.

    THE GROUP TRAVELLED THROUGH TWELVE COUNTRIES INCLUDING IRAN, PAKISTAN, INDIA AND MALAYA. PERMISSION WAS NOT GRANTED FOR THE PARTY TO VISIT AFGHANISTAN AND BURMA AND SO THEY WERE FORCED TO SAIL FROM CALCUTTA TO PENANG.

    THE LEADER OF THE EXPEDITION CAPTAIN D.F. MACLAUGHLAN SAID THAT THE MOST HAZARDOUS PART OF THE TRIP WAS THROUGH IRAN. THE CONVOY ALMOST LOST TWO VEHICLES WHEN THEY WERE TRAPPED FOUR FEET IN FLOODS.

    THE COST OF THE EXPEDITION WAS GBP5,000, PAID FOR BY THE MEMBERS OF THE PARTY.
