    A POLL OF 72.9 PER CENT WAS RECORDED YESTERDAY (SUNDAY) IN SOUTH VIETNAM'S LOWER HOUSE ELECTIONS. THIS WAS 10 PER CENT LOWER THAN THE POLL FOR LAST MONTH'S PRESIDENTIAL AND SENATE ELECTIONS, ALTHOUGH THE FULL RESULTS WILL NOT BE KNOWN OFFICIALLY UNTIL THURSDAY (OCTOBER 26TH)
    ABOUT 5.8 MILLION VOTERS HAD BEEN ELIGIBLE TO TAKE PART IN THE POLL, WHICH IS THE FINAL STAGE OF THE COUNTRY'S RETURN TO CONSTITUTIONAL RULE AFTER TWO YEARS UNDER MILITARY REGIMES.

    SOME 1,200 CANDIDATES RAN FOR THE 137 SEATS IN THE LOWER HOUSE WHICH, TOGETHER WITH THE SIXTY-MEMBER SENATE WILL FROM THE NATION'S LEGISLATURE.

    THE VIET CONG VIRTUALLY IGNORED THE POLL, AND GOVERNMENT SOURCES SAID THAT ONLY SIX ATTACKS RELATED TO IT HAD BEEN REPORTED. IN THEM, TWO CIVILIANS WERE KILLED, AND THREE WOUNDED.
