    THE GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO HAVE SIGNED AN AGREEMENT WITH THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION THAT CEDES 50 HECTARES OF LAND TO THE WHO FOR AN EXTENSION OF ITS PRESENT FACILITIES AND FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A MUSEUM TO HEALTH AND SCIENCE.

    THE AGREEMENT WAS SIGNED ON FRIDAY (3RD SEPTEMBER) IN BRAZZAVILLE BY DR. ALFRED QUENUM, REGIONAL DIRECTOR OF THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION IN AFRICA, AND MR. BONIFACE MATINGOU ACTING FOR THE GOVERNMENT.

    THE SIGNING PREFACES THE COMING 21ST SESSION OF THE AFRICAN REGIONAL COMMITTEE OF THE WHO, WHICH WILL BE HELD IN BRAZZAVILLE FROM 8 TO 15 SEPTEMBER. TWENTY NINE AFRICAN COUNTRIES WILL BE REPRESENTED.

    SYNOPSIS: IN AN AGREEMENT SIGNED AT THE REGIONAL HEADQUARTERS OF THE WORLD HEALTH
    ORGANISATION ON FRIDAY, THE GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO HAVE CEDED THE WHO 50 HECTARES OF LAND
    THE AGREEMENT WAS SIGNED BY THE REGIONAL DIRECTOR OF THE WHO IN AFRICA, DOCTOR ALFRED QUENUM, AND MR. BONIFACE MATINGOU FOR THE GOVERNMENT. THE LAND WILL BE USED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND HEALTH.

    THE GRANTING OF THIS PIECE OF LAND OF THE GOVERNMENT IS A FURTHER STAGE IN THEIR PROGRAMME OF SOCIAL HEALTH AND WELFARE. AMONG OTHER PROGRAMMES IN OPERATION AT THE MOMENT ARE THE RUNNING OF SEVERAL PHARMACIES IN RURAL AREAS, WHERE COUNTRY PEOPLE MAY BUY MEDICINES AT A VERY LOW PRICE. IN ADDITION, TEN COMPLETE MEDICAL UNITS HAVE BEEN EQUIPPED FOR DISPENSARY WORK AND MATERNITY USE, WHILE OTHER UNITS HAVE BEEN EQUIPPED FOR SPECIALISED MOTHER AND CHILD CARE. THIS NEW AGREEMENT PREFACES THE COMING 21ST SESSION OF THE AFRICAN REGIONAL COMMITTEE OF THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION, WHICH WILL BEGAN IN BRAZZAVILLE ON WEDNESDAY.
