Dr Arias, former Panamanian Ambassador in London, sought asylum in the Brazilian Embassy in Panama City eleven weeks ago when being hunted for alleged complicity in a pilot to overthrow the Government. When he and his wife returned from a boat trip, D??? get was arrested on a charge of smuggling arms for the rebels, Dr Arias went into hiding.
After a short spell in Panama City gaol the 39-year old ballerina was released and returned to London. Dr Arias was finally granted a safe conduct out of the country by the Panamanian Government June 24, left Panama by air for Rio de Janeiro and met his wife there June 27.
Speaking to the pre??? to airport, Dame Margot expressed her gratitude to the Brazilian Government and said she intended to stay in Brazil for five or six weeks before returning to London with her husband.
