    Five people were killed and 20,000 were rendered homeless as fired raised the suburbs of Casablanca of Bidonville to the ground on the 11th June. The damage caused to property has been estimated at a reinstatement cost of 900 million francs (about GBP900,000)
    Within a few hours of hearing of the disaster, King Mohamed of Morocco visited the scene and was given an estimate by M. Douiri the Minister of Works of the programme of reconstruction, which has since begun.

    Princess Lalaisha, in fact, has laid the first stone and many government ministers are taking an active part in the programme.
