Astronauts John W. Young and Michael Collins were sent into space from Cape Kennedy on the Gemini 10 mission. The launch, at 6:21 p.m. (Eastern Daylight Time), went faultlessly.
The launch of the mission vehcile took place exactly on schedule from Cape Kennedy. Astronauts John W. Young (a Commander in the U.S. Navy) and Michael Collins (a Major in the U.S. Air Force) had an apparently faultless launch and all information from the rocket and the ground control station indicated that the initial stages of the mission were successful.
The launch of the astronauts followed the lift-off two hours earlier of the AGENA 10 target vehicle. During the mission, the astronauts will attempt to rendezvous with both the Agena 10 and the Agena 8 target vehicle. The Agena 8 target vehicle, which has now power and no fuel, has been in orbit since March, when it was used in a docking maneuver during the Gemini 8 mission.
