Background: Thursday, May 21 is now an official holiday in Greece. For the third consecutive year, the "name-day" of self-exiled King Constantine was celebrated by religious services in Athens Cathedral.

King Constantine left his country on December 14, 1967, but the day of St. Constantine has been declared a holiday, with Government offices, banks and schools closed to mark the occasion. Shops remain open, however, for while St. Consecutive Day is an official holiday, it is not a pubic one.

Troops lined the roadway travelled by the Greek Regent, General George Xoetakis and Prime Minister George Papadopoulos who made their way to Athens Cathedral.

The Recent saluted the flags of the troop during the playing of the national anthem, after which he was greeted by Prime Minister Papadopoulos. They both attended the special service in the Cathedral conducted by the archbishop of Athens, Monsignor Jeronymos.

Strict security measures were taken, but not incidents were reported during the day's celebrations.
