    THE NEW OFFICE OF THE AUSTRALIAN HIGH COMMISSION IN NEW DELHI WAS OPENED LAST SATURDAY BY MR. PAUL HASLUCK, AUSTRALIAN MINISTER OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS.

    MR. HASLUCK, ACCOMPANIED BY HIS WIFE, WAS IN INDIA LAST WEEK AT THE INVITATION OF THE INDIAN GOVERNMENT. HE LED AUSTRALIA'S DELEGATION AT THE RECENTLY CONCLUDED ANNUAL SESSION OF THE ECONOMIC COMMISSION FOR ASIA AND THE FAR EAST (ECAFE) IN NEW DELHI.

    PRESENT AT THE BRIEF INAUGURATION CEREMONY WERE THE COMMISSIONER AND HIS WIFE.

    BOTH THE COMMISSIONER AND MR. HASLUCK SPOKE TO A GATHERING OF COMMISSION OFFICIALS AND GUESTS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF THE NEW OFFICE. MR. HASLUCK LATER UNVEILED A PLAQUE COMMEMORATING THE OCCASION.

    THE NEW OFFICE WILL BE READY FOR OCCUPATION LATER THIS YEAR. IT IS A STONE MASONRY STRUCTURE COVERING A TOTAL AREA OF ABOUT 24,000 SQUARE FEET LOCATED IN THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF THE 12-ACRE DIPLOMATIC ENCLAVE AND FACING THE MAIN HIGHWAY OF SHANTIPATH. THE EXTERIOR WALLS ARE BUILT IN DELHI BLUE STONE.
