  • Description

Acharya Vinoba Bave, India's "Walking Saint" and disciple of the late Mahatma Gandhi, had talks with Indian Premier Nehru at Pati Kalan, a Punjab village 40 miles from Delhi, April 2.

The Indian holy man walks though the land asking the rich to give land to peasants who have none, and by his goodness he has persuaded many to do so. His influence extends beyond land-owners, and politicians respect his worth. During his Punjab tour the Acharya ('Learned saint') brought together two Punjabis of conflicting opinions - Chief Minister Sardar Partap Singh Kairon, and Tara Singh, advocate of an autonomous Punjab.

When Premier Nehru heard that Vinoba was near the national capital he took time off from his official visit to go and see him.
