Background: Another in the series of classifying marched for this year's "America Cup". Brazil, managed by Claudio Coutinho ??? Bolivia, managed by Blacut, had lost to Bolivia in La Paz (2-1) earlier this year, so victory was uncertain this time around. But Brazil managed to crowd Bolivia out of the running, however, with a hard-won 2-0 score, and now Brazil only needs to draw or win one more game, Aug. 23, with Argentina in Buenos Aires to make the semi-finals.

The Bolivian defense was wear through the first half, but even through Brazil had control of the ball throughout, bad organization kept the scoreboard at a standstill. Bolivian offence, meanwhile, was intense but to no avail; only once was Leao called on for a difficult defensive operation.

The second half was barely underway when Tita, who had come in for Batata, put Brazil on the scoreboard. But Brazil was still disorganized; in control of the ball but not able to do anything constructive with it. The Bolivians were tired by this time, making every attempt to grab the ball put without success.

Socrates and Junior attacked again and again but the scoreboard seemed frozen at 1-0. Leao, back a the Brazilian goal, took a rest, meanwhile, as the Bolivians couldn't even get close. The crowd begged for Palhinha, who came in place of Zenon, but Palhinha only raised morale but not the score. A fight broke out after Zico's goal in the overtime and the game almost stopped over the brawl, but he referee managed to harness the tumult with no expulsions.

Brazil's victory was well-deserved, but the Bolivians gave them a run for their money.
