    Background: THE TERENDAK CAMP IN MALACCA, WEST OF MALAYA, HAS BEEN THE HOME OF THE THIRD BATTALION, ROYAL AUSTRALIAN REGIMENT, FOR THE PAST 18 MONTHS.YESTERDAY (MONDAY), MEMBERS OF THE BATTALION MADE A THOROUGH CHECK OF THEIR FIREARMS, EQUIPMENT, AND PREPARED STORES AND MEDICAL SUPPLIES BEFORE LEAVING FOR MALAYSIAN BORNEO.

    THE BATTALION WILL SERVE AS REQUIRED, IN ROTATION WITH BRITISH UNITS IN THE BORNEO TERRITORIES.THE BATTALION IS THE SECOND AUSTRALIAN COMBAT UNIT TO GO TO BORNEO.

    THE BATTALION HAS SEEN SERVICE IN THE THAI-MALAYAN BORDER AGAINST THE REMNANTS OF MALAYAN COMMUNISTS AND INDONESIAN INFILTRATORS ON THE WEST COAST OF MALAYA.

    THE FIRST SPECIAL AIR SERVICE SQUADRON, WHICH FLEW FROM PERTH TO SINGAPORE LAST MONTH IS NOW IN MALAYSIAN BORNEO.
