    TWENTY-ONE CHIEFS, REPRESENTING OVER THREE MILLION AFRICANS IN SOUTHERN RHODESIA, HAVE BEEN HAVING TALKS WITH THE GOVERNMENT IN SALISBURY ABOUT TRIBAL PROBLEMS. THE MEETING IS PART OF THE GOVERNMENT'S PLANS TO ENABLE AFRICANS TO HAVE A BIGGER SAY IN THE MANAGEMENT OF THEIR AFFAIRS.

    THE TALKS OPENED AT THE FEDERAL ASSEMBLY YESTERDAY (WEDNESDAY), AND WERE PRESIDED OVER BY THE MINISTER FOR NATIVE AFFAIRS, MR. B.V.EWING. AMONG THOSE DISCUSSING MATTERS OF COMMON INTEREST WERE CHIEFS FROM THE MATABELE AND MASHONA TRIBES, WHO HAVE BEEN BITTER ENEMIES FOR CENTURIES PAST.

    TRADITIONAL GIFTS OF SPEARS AND SHIELDS WERE MADE TO MR. EWING BY TWO OF THE CHIEFS. THEY ARE TO BE SENT TO RHODESIA HOUSE IN LONDON.
