Background: King Frederick IX of Denmark, who died on 14 January, was laid to rest on Monday in the ancient cathedral of Roskilde, the traditional burial-place of Danish kings.
The four-hour ceremonies were attended by six reigning sovereigns, four presidents and dozens of princes, princesses and cabinet ministers from all over the world. Thousands of danes braved the bitter cold to pay their last respects to their king.
This Visnews film by Frank Paulsen and others shows the main procession through the streets of Copenhagen, mourners arriving at Roskilde Cathedral, and the funeral service itself. There is good natural sound throughout.
