    King Mahendra of Nepal, accompanied by Queen Ratna Rajya Lakshmi Devi and their son, Prince Dhirendra, arrived at Palam Airport, New Delhi, July 20, and was greeted by Indian President Prasad; Vice-President Radhakrishnan and Premier Pandit Nehru.

    After inspecting a guard of honour and presentations to members of the Diplomatic Corps - including the Chinese Ambassador - King Mahendra and President Prasad drove away to the Presidential Palace where the Nepalese Royal family will stay during their four-day visit.

    In Delhi King Mahendra will hav talks with Indian leaders about the present Sino-Nepalese border situation, before flying home to Katmandu at the end of a three-and-a-half months world tour.

    According to official Communist Chinese news agency reports July 20, Premier Chou-En-lai has agreed to a Nepali demand for 50,000 rupees (about GBP4,000) as compensation for the killing of a Nepalese officer in a border incident last month. In a letter to Nepalese Premier Koirala July 19, chou-En-lai said that he hopes to withdraw Chinese troops to beyond 20 kilometres from the Sino-Nepalese border by the end of July. Premier Chou said he expected Chinese troops to have finished the mopping up of Tibetan "rebels" in the border area by then.
