  • Description

Some 5,000 supporter of exiled dictator Juan Domingo Peron gave a rousing reception to his third wife on her arrival at Buenos Aires on Tuesday (7 December).

As Senora Isabel Martinez de Peron stepped off the plane, the banner-carrying crowd called for the return of power of the 76-year-old former leader.

Her husband's personal representative in Argentina - Sr Hector Compare - headed an official welcoming party drawn from all sections of the divided but still-powerful Peronist movement. Senora de Peron's objective is believed to be centred on uniting the movement with a view to Argentina's first general elections in eight years, scheduled for March 1973.

Peron himself has been living in exile since an army uprising ended his nine-year rule in September 1955. Since 1960, he has been residing in Madrid.
