Background: Alfredo Marcano of Venezuela retained his Junior World Boxing Association Lightweight title by pummelling Japanese challenger Kenji Iwata into submission in Caracas on Saturday.
Marcano was declared the winner in round four after a battery of head and body punches had floored Iwata for the fifth time in the fight. Refusing to play it safe against Marcano's murderous pace, the Korean-born Iwata had tried to trade punches with the champion in the centre of the ring. But the Venezuelan's stinging left jab-to which Iwata had no defence--paved the way for the knockdowns and eventual victory.
