  • Description

Greek-Cypriot students took to the streets in Nicosia Friday (14 March) to show their anger at the decision by the United Nations Security Council on Cyprus.

The Security Council urged, without a formal vote, that the Greek and Turkish parties in the Cyprus dispute resume their negotiations. The negotiations were broken off last month after the Turkish Cypriots formed their own state in northern Cyprus.

The Greek-Cypriot students said the Security Council action was weak.

They had hoped the Turkish-Cypriot declaration of their own state would have been condemned.

Their protest took the form of a march to the Greek Embassy in Nicosia and then to the Presidential Offices to deliver a resolution on the U.N. decision.
