  • Description

The British delegate at the United Nations, Sir Colin Crowe, yesterday (Monday) reaffirmed this country's support for the Security Council resolution of 1967 aimed at restoring peace to the Middle East.

This resolution, number 242, states that Israel should pull back from territory captured in 1967 in exchange for secure and recognised boundaries with the Arab states.

The British delegates speech followed British Foreign Secretary Sir Alec Douglas-Home's weekend speech on the situation, which brought angry Israeli reaction, because of what some Israeli officials considered was over-emphasis on the withdrawal question. The statement in the U.N. came on the eve of the Israeli Prime Minister, Mrs Golda Meir's visit to Britain.
