  • Description

The United States now estimates the cost of putting men on the moon at 20 billion dollars. This is twice the cost of developing the atomic bomb. The goal is to launch three men into space in Project Apollo aboard a Saturn rocket booster by 1970.

The technique is called Lunar Orbit Rendezvous.Three men will be blasted into a lunar orbit aboard a space capsule. The capsule will have attached what is called a Lunar Excursion Module.

Two of the three men will board this Module once they are in orbit around the moon. They will then land on the moon's surface, while the third man remains in lunar orbit aboard the original lunar capsule.

Once the two-man team completes its mission on the moon, they will rocket back to the orbiting lunar command capsule, rejoin the third man and the capsule will return to earth.
