    The trial of ninety two men accused of plotting to overthrow President Anwar Sadat of Egypt was postponed in Cairo on Saturday (16 November) after defence lawyers alleged that some of their clients had been tortured during questioning.

    The alleged plot was uncovered following the attack on Cairo's Technical Military Academy on 18 April. During the attack eleven people were killed and twenty seven others injured.

    The postponement of the trial was announced at the end of a stormy session in the State Supreme Security Court after the Court President had ordered that six of the defendants be examined for signs of torture and that lawyers be allowed to see their clients privately. The trial is to resume on 14 November.

    The trial follows an attack on a Cairo military ??? last April which left eleven dead and many others injured. At time Egypt allowed that the attack had been inspired by libyan leader Muammar Gaddefi. The defendent, most of them cadets or University students, stated that they had been ??? before the trial.

    Alleged leader of the Saleh Abdallah Military Academy was Saleh Abdallah Sarreya, a Palestinian. The Court President ordered that some defendants be examined for signs of torture and postponed the tri until mid-December.
