    United Nations diplomats and secretariat officials on Wednesday (19 April) each paid up to 50 dollars (???20 sterling) to watch an exhibition table tennis match between the touring team from the People's Republic of China, and a special team from the United Nations.

    Proceeds from the match went to the United Nations' International School.

    Part of the Trusteeship Council Chamber was transformed into a sports arena for the occasion. Among those in the front row were the United States Ambassador, Mr. George Bush - and the Chinese Ambassador, Mr. Huang Hua. The United Nations Secretary-General, Dr. Kurt Waldheim, is at present in Latin American and so was unable to attend. However, he was represented by the Under Secretary-General, Mr. C.V. Narasimham.

    The Chinese table tennis players were to play a match against a United States team in New York on Thursday (20 April) and they have further matches to play in Memphis and Los Angeles.
