  • Description

Abdallah El-Efrangy, an Arab League delegate recently arrested and deported back to Egypt from Bonn, has complained officially at the treatment of Arab representatives by the West German authorities.

Mr El-Efrangy said in a report submitted to the West German embassy in Cairo that the security authorities had laid siege at his residence in Bonn. They had searched his house without permission, taken him to the airport for deportation via an underground tunnel, then despatched him to Egypt without the chance to speak to his own embassy.

Dr. Ahmed Sayed Hamad, acting Secretary-General of the Arab League, has conveyed to the West German Charge d'Affaires in Cairo, Wilfred Wogler, his concern at the measures taken against the League's representative in Bonn. He expressed the view that Zionism was distorting the Arab image in West Germany and propagating rumours that the Palestinian presence there represented a threat to German security.
