Background: A strengthening of security co-operation between the Persian Gulf State of Qatar and Jordan is being discussed in Amman during a visit by Qatar's security chief, Brigadier Sheikh Hamed ben Jasem Al-Thani.

Brigadier Al-Thani arrived in the Jordanian capital on a week-long visit that is due to end on Thursday (4 January).

A highlight of his tour was a visit to the Jordanian Royal Police Academy, in Amman, on Sunday (31 December). He was accompanied on a tour of inspection of the academy by Major-General Anwar Mohammad, Jordan's Director General of Public Security.

Co-operation between Jordan and Qatar has been growing during the past two years, particularly in the field of public security, with a number of Qatar police officers being trained at the academy.

At least three members of the official party accompanying Brigadier Al-Thani graduated from the academy in 1971.

During his visit, Brigadier Al-Thani watched officers, including some of his own men, training in the use of rifles, unarmed combat and field operation.
