    Two skaters from the United States, David Santee and Linda Fratianne the 1977 Women's World Champion, dominated the compulsory figure events at an International ice skating tournament in London on Wednesday (11 October). The tournament attracted some of the world's best figure skaters and ice dancers to Britain for the events.

    SYNOPSIS: Linda Fratianne, was the silver medallist at this year's world championships, but is looking to regain the gold at the coming World Championships in Vienna next March. The judges were unanimous in awarding her first place in the compulsory figure event on Wednesday (11 October).

    Emi Watanabe has been the reigning Japanese Champion since 1972. She trains in Denver in the United States now, and placed eighth at the world championships in Canada this year. she placed second to Miss Fratianne in this event.

    David Santee, a 21-year-old student from Illinois in the United States dominated the men's competition. He placed second in the American and sixth in the World Championships this year, and scored well in this event.

    Fumio Igarashi of Japan has been called an exciting free skater. Seventh in this year's World Championships, he is another skater who trains in the United States. He beat Santee in the Men's short programme on Wednesday, coming first, but placed fourth in the compulsory figures. He stood second overall after the first day of the competition.
