The Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation, Mr. Edouard Saouma, last week?
The Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation, Mr. Edouard Saouma, last week (22 February) paid a personal visit to Chad, the Small West African republic which has received a great deal of aid from the Organisation.
SYNOPSIS: A guard on honour was on hand at N'Djamena airport for the arrival of Mr. Saouma. N'Djamena is the capital of Chad.
Among the welcoming party was Major Roasngar Mbaido loumal, Chad's Minister of Agricultural Development, who is responsible for dealing with natural disasters, such as the droughts which have brought famine to parts of his country.
Accompanied by the head of the Chad Civil Service, General Doumro Ngaharo Nguenabaye, the Major escorted the Director-General across the tarmac. Mr. Saouma who has held his office for two years, has a reputation for positive action, rather than well-meaning theory in the war on hunger.
Mr. Saouma later told newsmen his organisation would continue to help Chad with emergency food aid. Last year, the Food and Agriculture Organisation sent them two and a half million dollars worth.
