  • Description

Ghana's new 3000,000 cedis (???150,000 sterling), brewery entered full production last week.

The Tamale Brewery produces thousands of gallons of pito a day from maize and guinea corn. Pito, a popular drink in the northern part of Ghana, was brewed by women in the north until the establishment of the brewery.

The general manager, Mr. B.D. Powell, has said that about 30 tons of grain will be required each month for brewing the drink. Under an agreement signed with the Agriculture Development Bank, the factory has guaranteed to buy all the maize and guinea corn produced by the farmers.

Farmers in the northern and upper regions will be granted loans to maintain their farms to ensure regular supplies of raw materials to feed the factory.
