    Following his recent five day visit to Iraq, the President of the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen, Salem Robaya Ali, arrived in Damascus on Wednesday (22 May) on a one day visit to Syria.

    He was greeted at Damascus Airport by the Syrian President, Hafez Al-Assad and the Prime Minister, Mahmoud Al-Ayoubi, together with other Government leaders. President Ali confirmed his country's support of the "Syrian people's struggle", and praised the Syrian armed forces. He said his visit had great importance, especially in view of the situation in the international and the Arab worlds.

    The South Yemeni leader said his meeting with President Assad would provide an opportunity to exchange brotherly views on current problems concerning the Arab case and the Palestinian situation. He said he hoped his recent visit to Iraq would also lead to a development of relations between Iraq and South Yemen.

    SYNOPSIS: Damascus Airport has seen the arrival of many important international visitors during the past few months, and on Wednesday, President Hafez Al-Assad, and the Syrian Prime Minister, were there to greet Salem Robaya Ali, the president of the Peoples' Democratic Republic of Yemen. Mr. Ali had flown in for a one day visit to Syria, following his five-day visit to Iraq.

    At the airport, President Ali confirmed his country's support of the Syrian Peoples' struggle, and praised the Syrian armed forces. He said his visit had great importance, especially in view of the situation in international and Arab affairs.

    The South Yemeni leader said his meeting with President Assad would provide an opportunity to exchange "brotherly views" on current problems concerning the Arab cause and the Palestinian situation. The President also referred to his visit to Iraq, and his meeting with President Ahmed Hassan Al-Bakr. He said he hop it would lead to the development of relations between their two countries.
